Achieving Lasting Results
To maximise the benefits of strategic supply chain
design, companies have to revisit their analysis on a regular basis as
conditions change. To make this easier, it is possible to retain
previously used models in a repository for later re-use with updated
data and assumptions.
Supply chain design can
provide information about sensitivities/thresholds for key data, and
this can help identify when certain assumptions about the supply chain
are no longer valid. For example, if analysis of product sourcing costs
has recommended production at a particular facility, it can also
indicate the level of costs at which that recommendation would
change to an alternative facility. This kind of information defines a "bandwidth" within which a
particular supply chain design is expected to operate, acting like
detailed signposts within a strategic plan.
